Baseball: Cody Thompson continues to throw blanks for Alemany

Senior pitcher Cody Thompson of Mission Hills Alemany threw five shutout innings in the No. 2-ranked Warriors’ 3-0 victory over Dos Pueblos. Thompson (3-0) has allowed one run in 22 innings this season.

Peter Van Gansen picked up his second save, Ryan Paramo had a two-run double and Corey Sims had two doubles for the Warriors (7-1-1).

No. 1-ranked Riverside North (7-0) opened Big VIII League play with a 10-3 win over Corona. Gabrial Franca and Gabriel Clark each had three hits and Jack Johnson threw a complete game, allowing one hit while striking out nine.

Chatsworth defeated Bishop Amat, 8-2, in a nonleague game at USC. The Chancellors scored seven runs in the first. Raul Camas a two-run triple. Hayden Tsutsui and Ricky Obando had two hits apiece. Birmingham was beaten by Highland, 4-2.

The Marmonte League opened its season with Luke Eubank of Newbury Park locked in a pitcher’s duel with Moorpark’s Sean Berry. Newbury Park won, 3-2, with a run in the seventh. Eubank allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked none. Berry allowed three hits. Thousand Oaks defeated Westlake, 7-2, in eight innings.

Coley O’Brien-Ruiz had three hits in Simi Valley’s 11-6 win over Calabasas. Agoura defeated Royal, 10-6. Mark Seyler had three RBIs and Tyler Cohen, Albee Weiss and Bryce Fehmel had two hits apiece. Justin Greco hit a home run for Royal.

In the Foothill League, Hart defeated Saugus, 8-2. Valencia defeated Golden Valley, 13-4. Keston Hiura had three RBIs and Johnny Ives had three hits. West Ranch defeated Canyon, 16-1. Freshman Jagger Rusconi had a triple and three RBIs. Cody Bennett struck out six in four innings.

Esperanza (5-2, 2-0) defeated Santa Ana Foothill, 4-2, in a Century League game. Harrison Pyatt struck out three and walked none in six innings.

Taft rallied to defeat Palisades, 12-11, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Harrison Goldblatt’s two-out single drove in the winning run. Nick Gendian had a three-run home run and Ramsey Abushahla had a two-run home run.

Grace Brethren defeated Buckley, 5-3. Don Carlson had three hits. Narbonne defeated Cleveland, 4-3. Sophomore Isaac Lepe went three for four, including a game-winning RBI with two outs in the bottom of the seventh
