Baseball: Art Moran-Vidrio comes through for Orange Lutheran

In a Trinity League matchup between top left-handers, Art Moran-Vidrio of Orange Lutheran struck out seven and allowed three hits in six shutout innings to lead the Lancers past unbeaten Anaheim Servite and ace pitcher Cole Irvin, 4-1, on Tuesday.

Orange Lutheran (6-2, 1-0) took advantage of a huge error in the first inning to score three runs off Irvin. Cody Nulph had an RBI single and Matt Carlson had a two-run single. Servite dropped to 5-1 overall and played without catcher Darrell Miller Jr., who had to sit out the game after being ejected from a game on Saturday.

Mater Dei defeated Santa Margarita, 6-5, in eight innings. Ty Moore threw three shutout innings of relief. Trevor Charpie threw five strong innings to lead JSerra past St. John Bosco, 9-3.

In the Mission League, Jack Flahety struck out eight in six shutout innings, Joe Corrigan hit a two-run home run and Max Fried had four RBIs in Harvard-Westlake 9-2 win over Crespi. Arden Pabst added three hits. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Chaminade, 7-6. Chaminade made eight errors. Notre Dame balked in runs twice. Matt Cohen was the winning pitcher in relief.

In the Baseline League, Glendora defeated Los Osos, 2-1.

Ayala defeated Fullerton, 9-4. USC-bound Vahn Bozoian had three hits, including a home run.

Anthony Shew threw a four-hitter and Mitch Holland had an RBI triple in Mission Viejo’s 1-0 win over Loara. Reggie Southall hit two home runs in Gardena Serra’s 20-0 win over Compton.

Sierra Canyon defeated Faith Baptist, 14-3. Brian Tucker hit a home run.
