Baseball: Chase DeJong lifts Long Beach Wilson

Ace pitcher Chase DeJong threw a three-hitter, striking out six, to lift Long Beach Wilson (6-1) past Huntington Beach Edison, 4-2, on Saturday.

Jeff Ortega hit a grand slame and Andrew Richards hit a two-run home run in Capistrano Valley’s 12-5 win over Bishop Amat. Adam Alcantara hit a grand slam for Bishop Amat. Christian Salina had three hits for the Cougars (3-2), raising his average to .500.

West Torrance handed St. John Bosco (7-1) its first defeat with a 4-2 victory. Adrian Martinez threw four scoreless innings of relief for St. John Bosco. Orange Lutheran defeated Damien, 8-2. Los Osos defeated Crescenta Valley, 7-2. Troy Mulcahey had three hits for Crescenta Valley.

Ventura Buena defeated Buchanon, 11-3, in the Central California Showcase. Tyler Watson went three for three. Buena is 7-1.

Harvard-Westlake defeated Santa Barbara, 14-1, with Brandon Deere and Hans Hansen combining on a one-hitter. Jack Flaherty and Max Fried had three hits apiece.

Jack Hartman threw four innings of one-hit ball and contributed three hits in Cleveland’s 12-1 win over Crespi. The Celts won the second game, 6-2, with Andre Angel Bello getting three hits.

Alemany improved to 6-1-1 with a 7-4 victory over El Camino Real. Christian Mercado, Corey Sims and Paul Banyi had two hits apiece.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame swept a doubleheader from Canyon Country Canyon, 3-2, and 4-0. Matt Walker had the game-winning hit in the first game. Nick Hirabayashi won the second game.

Brentwood is 4-0 after a 7-4 win over St. Margaret’s. Freshman Zack Lewis pitched 5 1/2 innings and had two hits and three RBIs. North Hollywood defeated Franklin, 3-2. Sebastian Piscuskas threw a complete game and Eddie Torres and Michael Sepulveda had two hits each.

Birmingham (5-2) defeated Verdugo Hills, 3-2, in nine innings. Manny Granillo had a home run and double. St. Francis swept a doubleheader from Salesian, 6-3 and 8-1. David Olmedo-Barrera had five hits on the day. Palos Verdes defeated Narbonne, 6-2.
