Has anyone been keeping track of the scores in girls’ basketball?

Windward 98, Nipomo 14; JSerra 93, Costa Mesta 20; Oaks Christian 91, Santa Ynez 25; St. Bonaventure 68, Carpinteria 18; Troy 61, Los Alamitos 26; Canyon Springs 63, Colony 19; Windward 115, Workman 46.

Windward is playing in 4AA because of enrollment restrictions even though it has beaten 1AA teams Mater Dei and Long Beach Poly. I’ve seen the Wildcats against a weak team, and they do everything they can not to embarrass opponents, such as calling off a full-court press.

‘I can’t tell my kids not to play hard,’ Windward Coach Steve Smith said.

The disparity in scores is partly because there are too many divisions and too many teams being allowed into the playoffs. And also because the small, powerful private schools are placed in divisions based on enrollment, and that’s going to cause some mismatches in the early rounds.
