Pack your electric fans, Encino Crespi supporters, because your football team is headed to Arizona for its season opener on Saturday, Aug. 18 against Tucson Salpointe Catholic High School in a 7 p.m. game.

It’s the earliest season opener for the Celts and comes a week before schools with a zero-week game will begin. And temperatures in Tucson usually are over 100 degrees at that time of the year.

The two schools are Carmelite schools and hope to meet annually. Salpointe will come to Crespi next season. It’s the first time two Carmelite schools are playing against each other outside the greater Chicago area, according to Crespi spokesman Paul Rawate.

Salpointe was 9-2 last season. Crespi is tentatively scheduled to play Taft in week zero and then have two bye weeks during the regular season.
