What does it say about college football recruiting when running back De’Jon Coleman, who set a City Section record this past season with 47 touchdowns at Arleta, fails to land a scholarship? And he’s qualified academically to attend a Cal State or UC school.

‘It’s pretty disappointing,’ Coach Dan Kelley said. ‘Somebody missed out. It’s a weird situation. He ran a 4.34 40 at the USC camp. He ran 4.4 at the UCLA camp.’

Coleman took an official visit to Nevada last week but the school decided not to make an offer.

Whether because of lack of size (he’s 5 feet 9) or something else, Coleman failed to convince the recruiters that he could play at the next level.

Now comes plan B. Kelley said he’ll sit down with Coleman and his family to discuss options. He could walk on at a school or he could go to a junior college for one year and try to prove he belongs.
