Yes, Friday’s City Section Division II championship games at Roybal in boys’ and girls’ basketball will produce a celebration scene, but El Camino Real and Palisades have more ambitious ideas ahead.

Both schools could be factors in the state Division II playoffs, with real opportunities to play with and beat the top teams in the Southern Section.

Palisades (27-5) is set to play Monroe in the girls’ final at 6 p.m. Donae Moguel, a 6-foot-1 senior, is averaging 16.4 points. Many believe Palisades is the best team in the City Section this season regardless of divisions.

El Camino Real (21-7) will play Garfield in the 8 p.m. Division II boys’ final. El Camino Real finished second to Taft in the West Valley League and is loaded with top young players.
