For all those who like to tease and make fun of City Section sports, one sport that doesn’t have to take a back seat to anything is boys’ soccer.

The City Section 32-team large schools playoffs always produces quite a battle. The No. 32 seed is capable of beating the No. 1 seed.

As Coach David Hussey of four-time City champion Woodland Hills El Camino Real says, ‘I think in soccer, you have parity on any given day.’

Bell is seeded No. 1 and El Camino Real No. 2 in the tournament that gets started on Wednesday.

El Camino Real has dedicated its season to goalie Francisco Rodriguez, who was shot and killed in front of his home on Jan. 11 after playing in a soccer game.

Senior Randdi Misrahi has filled in for Rodriguez. Defender Ozzie Martinez and forward Ericson Penante have led the Conquistadores, who won the West Valley League championship.

There are top soccer programs throughout the LAUSD, and even relatively new schools can be contenders, such as Robert Kennedy and Torres, which made the 32-team draw.
