Boys’ basketball: Western League ends with three-way tie for first

You can call it the wacky Western League. It ended Friday night in a three-way tie for first place after Fairfax knocked off Westchester, 56-53.
Fairfax (19-9, 10-2), Westchester (20-6, 10-2) and Palisades (16-10, 10-2) shared the title, and now it will be up to the City Section playoff seeding committee to figure out where teams should be placed when the Division I pairings come out on Saturday. Fairfax beat Westchester twice. Palisades beat Fairfax twice. Westchester beat Palisades twice.
Brendyn Taylor scored 18 points, Landon Drew had 12 and Reggie Theus Jr. 11 for the Lions, who opened a 14-2 first-quarter lead, led by as many as 15 points in the third quarter and held on with some clutch free-throw shooting. Je’ron Primus scored 19 points for Westchester. University defeated Hamilton, 45-41.
In the Valley Mission League, Granada Hills Kennedy gained a share of the title after beating Panorama, 56-44. Dom Vargas scored 18 points. Grant finished 24-5 and 12-0 in the East Valley League after a 57-51 win over Verdugo Hills. Tullio Parry had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
In the West Valley League, El Camino Real defeated Granada Hills, 64-39. Julian Richardson had 17 points. Taft finished 10-0 in league and 24-3 overall after a 62-52 win over Chatsworth. Kris Yanku had 20 points.
In the Foothill League, Clay Kasdorf scored 34 points and Coley Apsay 28 to help Canyon Country Canyon defeat Hart, 78-69. Canyon shared the league title with West Ranch, finishing 23-3 and 8-2.
