Boys’ basketball: Ocean View shows its progress in win over Mission Viejo

Huntington Beach Ocean View, in its first season after the death of Coach Jim Harris, showed the progress it is making with a 92-80 win over Mission Viejo in the Nike Extravaganza under co-coaches Jimmy Harris and Tim Walsh.

Ocean View is 21-3 and received 26 points and 13 rebounds from 7-foot center Conor Clifford. Mission Viejo (21-3) was led by football standout Max Redfield, a junior who scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds. He made eight of 14 shots.

Earlier, JSerra (15-7) defeated Ontario Colony, 76-73, in overtime. Jamal Aytes finished with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Derriyoun Browning scored 27 points for Colony (18-7).

Los Alamitos (14-11) upset Upland, 56-50, behind Ryan Hurst, who had 27 points and 10 rebounds. Upland (16-9) got 16 points from Alfred Brown.

Brendyn Taylor made 10 of 10 free throws and finished with 22 points to help Fairfax (17-9) defeat Eisenhower, 73-67. Landon Drew added 17 points. Taylor made four consecutive free throws in the final minute and Drew added two. Marvelle Harris had 25 points and Terrance Sims 23 for Eisenhower (16-7).

Trailing, 36-28, in the fourth quarter, Westchester (19-5) went on a 12-0 run, including eight consecutive points from Je’ron Primus, and rallied for a 45-42 victory over Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley. Primus made eight of nine free throws and finished with 15 points. Capistrano Valley (21-3), which also lost to Crenshaw earlier this season, received 17 points from Jonny Bates.
