Boys' basketball: Johnny Stanton is coming to town

February 24, 2012 |  7:01 am

Alemany's football team has aspirations of winning the Pac-5 Division championship this fall, and the players will get a good look at who's standing in the way during Friday's basketball game against Santa Margarita, because quarterback Johnny Stanton plays for the Eagles.

The Division 3A semifinal basketball game is at Alemany. Also on Santa Margarita's team is lineman Riley Sorenson. Santa Margarita is 17-13 in the final season for retiring Coach Jerry DeBusk.

The other 3A semifinal matches Oak Park and host Bellflower St. John Bosco. Oak Park guard Ron Lee Jr. helped the Eagles sweep Oaks Christian in the Tri-Valley League, so they know how to play well in big games.

St. John Bosco is trying to make the final in the first season for former Taft Coach Derrick Taylor.
