In the end, Big Bear players made 12 three-pointers and gave No. 2-seeded La Verne Lutheran a little fourth-quarter scare, but 29 points and eight dunks from 6-foot-10 Grant Jerrett proved too much, and Lutheran came away with a 68-52 second-round playoff victory on Saturday in a Southern Section Division 4AA game at the University of La Verne.

Big Bear (21-3) fell behind, 14-0, to start the game, but the Bears rallied behind some excellent three-point shooting from junior Brad Amburgey, who scored 23 points, including five threes, and Cody Wilson, who had 18 points, all on threes.

The Bears got as close as nine points in the fourth quarter. McKay Anderson supported Jerrett with 16 points. Lutheran (21-6) played without guard Eric Cooper Jr., who suffered a broken finger earlier in the week. His availability for Tuesday’s quarterfinal game against host Oaks Christian is uncertain.
