Boys’ basketball: Crenshaw-Palisades game is set

The City Section Division I playoffs began Friday, but the real action will take place on Wednesday, when Crenshaw plays at Palisades in a quarterfinal game.

Crenshaw opened with a 91-43 win over Sylmar. Brandon Baker, Andre Edwards and Birdel Hodge each scored 18 points. Palisades defeated Manual Arts, 107-48. Donovan Johnson scored 42 points, six short of the school record.

Birmingham defeated University, 57-56. Victor Nwaba missed a three-pointer at the buzzer. Taft defeated West Adams, 80-20. Anthony January scored 21 points.

Other DI scores: Fairfax 71, Royal 22; Westchester 80, Poly 44.

In Division II, El Camino Real defeated Van Nuys, 62-21. Maleke Haynes had 16 points. Reseda defeated Venice, 72-63, with Teddy Linn scoring 30 points. Yes, Linn-sanity has hit Reseda. Other scores: San Pedro 78, Jordan 61; Narbonne 69, Torres 21; Kennedy 65, South Gate 33; Carson 75, Verdugo Hills 65; Garfield 77, Belmont 43.

In Division III, Grant defeated Bravo, 83-42, with Travis Wilson scoring 30 points. Other scores: Chatsworth 73, Panorama 68; Banning 79, Jefferson 49; Locke 77, Wilson 33; Hamilton 59, Marshall 41; Los Angeles 51, Huntington Park 49; Bell 75, Lincoln 30.
