Second-year Beverly Hills Coach Jarvis Turner was joking about going skinny dipping in the school pool to celebrate his team’s Southern Section 3AAA quarterfinal victory that put the Normans into the semifinals for the first time in 43 years.

Beverly Hills packed its gym for a 67-65 victory over Lawndale. Beverly Hills hasn’t been to a semifinals in basketball since 1969, when the school won a section title.

Turner said the school and community have been very supportive since he arrived from the City Section’s Birmingham High two years ago. He had City Section officials on Tuesday that made him feel comfortable.

Mike Lanier, the grandson of former Dodger outfielder Willie Crawford, keyed the victory with 23 points.

Next up is a game against Pasadena on Friday at Muir.
