Boys’ basketball: Harvard-Westlake routs Alemany

There was no hotter team in the San Fernando Valley than Mission Hills Alemany, until Wednesday night, when the Warriors were routed by Harvard-Westlake, 81-62. Alemany (23-4, 10-2), the Mission League champion, had won nine consecutive games.

But the Wolverines, led by Derick Newton’s 22 points, dominated from start to finish.

Loyola (21-4, 9-3) defeated St. Francis, 73-59. Parker Cartwright scored 13 points. Zack Gardea had 23 points for St. Francis. Chaminade defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 64-54. Jaron Martin scored 33 points and Jack Williams had 10 points and 16 rebounds. Chaminade trailed by as many as 17 points.

In the Camino Real League championship game, St. Bernard defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 66-57. Brandon Randolph scored 24 points for St. Bernard. Jose Estrada had 18 points for Cantwell-Sacred Heart. In the PAC 7, Righetti (20-4, 9-2) defeated San Luis Obispo, 75-52. Hunter Walker scored 21 points.

In the Valley Mission League, Kennedy defeated Canoga Park, 60-37. Dom Vargas scored 18 points. Kennedy (18-8, 10-1) will play Panorama (11-0) for the league title on Friday at Kennedy. Panorama defeated Sylmar, 61-51.

Grant won its 26th consecutive East Valley League game with a 69-31 win over Arleta. Gurgen Harutyunyun had 18 points and Travis Wilson 16. Standout center Gor Plavchyan sprained his left ankle in the first quarter and had to leave the game.

In the West Valley League, Julian Richardson scored 19 points and Maleke Haynes had 12 assists in El Camino Real’s 68-43 win over Chatsworth. Brandon Perry scored 21 points in Taft’s 63-47 win over Birmingham.

In the Coliseum League, Crenshaw defeated West Adams, 67-36. Brandon Baker scored 25 points. In the Western League, Donovan Johnson scored 18 points in Palisades’ 66-38 win over University.
