Baseball: West Ranch pulls out 7-6 win over Chatsworth

In a battle of top 25 teams, West Ranch scored five runs in the sixth inning to wipe out a 3-2 deficit and came away with a 7-6 victory over Chatsworth in the Easton tournament.

JD Krauskopf had two doubles and drove in the go-ahead runs in the sixth. JC Cloney retired the first nine batters in order, including six by strikeouts, to start the game for West Ranch (2-0). He ended up striking out eight in 4 2/3 innings with zero walks. Jared Holley had three hits, including a two-run double, for Chatsworth (1-1).

Junior outfielder Luke Persico hit two home runs in Hart’s 20-7 victory over Westlake. Oaks Christian defeated Quartz Hill, 9-4.

Alemany (2-0) defeated St. Bonaventure, 11-1. Corey Sims went four for four. Peter Van Gansen hit a two-run home run. Harvard-Westlake (2-0) got a grand slam from Arden Pabst and six shutout innings, plus nine strikeouts, from Max Fried in an 11-2 win over Saugus. Of note, softball standout Maddy Jelenicki got a single in her first at-bat in the seventh for Saugus.

Valencia (2-0) defeated Crespi, 6-5. Brian Mundell hit two home runs, including the game winner in the seventh. Loyola (2-0) defeated Lancaster, 12-5. Chad Powers struck out 10 and allowed three hits in six innings. John Soteropulos had four RBIs.

El Camino Real (2-0) defeated Santa Monica, 2-1. Owen Perry got the win and Justin Russell the save. Luke Eubank pitched Newbury Park (2-0) past Camarillo, 7-1. Agoura defeated Burroughs, 5-4, on a home run by Tyler Cohen in the seventh. Sean Berry struck out 13 in 5 1/3 innings to help Moorpark defeat Burbank, 3-0.

Chris Mallon threw a complete game and Nick Rodriguez hit a home run in Kennedy’s 5-1 win over Calabasas. Jack Hartman threw a shutout with seven strikeouts in Cleveland’s 2-0 win over Thousand Oaks. Chaminade defeated Simi Valley, 3-0, behind Kevin Lewallyn, who threw five shutout innings and struck out eight. Cole Rutherford hit a two-run home run.
