Baseball: Tournament play begins on Friday

The high school baseball season begins on Friday with some big tournaments.

The Southern California Showdown includes No. 1 Harvard-Westlake, No. 8 Alemany, No. 10 Simi Valley, No. 15 Newbury Park, No. 17 Camarillo, No. 19 West Ranch and No. 21 Chatsworth.

Harvard-Westlake is on the road at Burbank Burroughs, then hosts Saugus on Saturday. So it should be Lucas Giolito on the mound Friday, followed by Max Fried on Saturday.

The Southern California Invitational, hosted by Simi Valley Royal, includes defending City champion San Fernando, which opens on the road at Westchester. The complete schedule can be found here.

Redlands is hosting an invitational that includes No. 5 Riverside North, the defending Southern Section Division I champion. North opens at home against Victory Valley.
