Baseball: A 10-RBI day for Redlands’ Brian Ruhm

What an opening day for Brian Ruhm of Redlands. He hit two home runs and finished with 10 RBIs as Redlands defeated Rancho Verde, 14-0, in an opening game of the Redlands Invitational. Angel Landazuri threw a one-hitter.

Defending Division 1 champion Riverside North opened with a 15-3 win over Victor Valley. Gabe Franca had two doubles and Justin Gheorghe went three for five with a double and triple.

Justin Garza, unbeaten last season for La Verne Bonita, threw six shutout innings with nine strikeouts in Bonita’s 6-0 win over Damien. Santa Barbara defeated Pioneer Valley, 2-0. Kees t’Sas threw a four-hitter and had two hits.

Junior JJ Muno is known for his tackling at linebacker for the Sherman Oaks Notre Dame football team, but he also is an all-league baseball player. He had a home run, double and single in the Knights’ 10-0 victory over Canyon Country Canyon in the Southern California Invitational.

Buena defeated Granada Hills, 2-1. Oxnard defeated Palisades, 3-0. Defending City champion San Fernando got seven strikeouts in five innings from sophomore Alonzo Garcia and a grand slam from Carlos Robles in an 11-1 win over Westchester.

Taft defeated Roosevelt, 7-1. Nick Gendian threw a two-hitter and also hit a home run. Ramsey Abushahla hit a two-run home run. Birmingham defeated Sun Valley Poly, 6-2. Steven Rodriguez threw a complete game.

Aaron Landecker struck out nine in four innings and went three for three to help Sierra Canyon defeat Manual Arts, 17-2. Kyle Weber added three hits.
