Baseball: Banning has freshmen brothers with familiar name

Wilmington Banning has a history of getting sons of former Banning sports standouts, and the latest are the Yanez brothers, Jason and Justin, who are identical twins and the sons of Jeff Yanez, who was the quarterback for Banning's City Section championship football teams in 1978 and 1979.

Jason could be a varsity starter as a freshman. Banning, with eight returning starters from a 20-12 team, should be a threat to challenge defending champion San Fernando and Chatsworth in the City title hunt.

The Pilots' top returning player is Erik Magdaleno, a shortstop-pitcher who was the Marine League MVP as a junior.
