Before leaving for road trips, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame football players are supposed to make sure they have all their needed stuff before boarding the bus. Helmet? Check. Shoes? Check. Shoulder pads? Check.

Come this fall, before getting on the bus for an Aug. 31 game against Chandler, Ariz. Hamilton, the players will also need to remember to bring their passport.

The game is set for Dublin, Ireland, and the Knights will be departing for the airport on Aug. 28. The trip, part of the Global Ireland football tournament, should provide plenty of motivation for players in the spring and summer to make the varsity.

‘One of the difficult things is determining who’s going,’ Coach Kevin Rooney said.

To no one’s surprise, suddenly everyone wants to be on varsity. The Knights have 70 players, and that’s not including sophomores-to-be.

The school has been fundraising for months. The band and cheerleaders will join the trip.
