Football: Ellis McCarthy switches commitment to UCLA

One week after announcing on national TV he had committed to California, Monrovia defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy has switched to UCLA.

The resignation of Cal defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi, who accepted a position at Washington, was apparently a factor in McCarthy’s decision.

Players can’t sign a letter of intent until Feb. 1, so nothing is finalized until then.
