Chris Richards, who was a standout running back at San Fernando and California and used to be head coach at Monroe, has been hired as the new coach at Sylmar.

Richards helped coach the San Fernando junior varsity in 2008 and 2009. He has been working for PrepStar magazine in putting together an all-star football game set for Jan. 29 at the Home Depot Center.

He said his decision to become a head coach for the first time since 2004 revolves around wanting to help ‘guide kids.’ And he said his passion has come back for football.
