Talk about ridiculous ways to lose a game, let me tell the story how Westlake will have to forfeit a Wednesday victory over Agoura in the Marmonte League.

Westlake’s junior varsity coach was ejected from the JV game. Westlake Coach Rob Bloom said he asked the official if the coach could sit on the varsity bench during the varsity game. The official said yes.

The next day, Agoura filed a protest with the Southern Section, and varsity Coach Rob Bloom said the Southern Section ruled Westlake will have to forfeit because the JV coach shouldn’t have been allowed on the bench.

‘I was depressed all day,’ Bloom said Friday night after the Warriors defeated Moorpark in a league game. ‘The kids are devastated because they wanted to be in first place.’

So the officials and Westlake didn’t know the rule. And Agoura sure needed a Marmonte League victory.
