Boys’ basketball: Mater Dei begins Trinity League with victory

Santa Ana Mater Dei received 23 points from Katin Reinhardt, 19 points from Xavier Johnson and 17 points from Stanley Johnson to defeat Santa Margarita, 75-51, in a Trinity League opener.

St. John Bosco defeated JSerra, 73-72, without Coach Derrick Taylor, who had to miss the game after being ejected in the Braves’ last game in the Windward tournament. Jelani Gardner coached the team. Daniel Hamilton had 25 points. Orange Lutheran defeated Servite, 64-47. Darien Williamshad 25 points and 18 rebounds. Payton Banks added 19 points and 11 rebounds. The Lancers played without Gabe York, who is recovering from an appendectomy.

In the Marmonte League, Calabasas defeated Moorpark, 66-64. Spencer Levy had 20 points, Holden Israel 16 and Jeremy Lieberman had nine assists. Royal defeated Thousand Oaks, 52-40. Scott Woods had 19 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks. JR Powell had 15 points. Simi Valley defeated Newbury Park, 74-62. Kameel Zreik had 24 points and Austin Hawk 16.

In the South Coast League, Capistrano Valley (14-2, 1-0) defeated Tesoro, 59-45.

In the Pacific League, Brandon Jolley scored 27 points in Pasadena’s 69-58 win over Burbank.

Los Angeles Price defeated Cerritos Gahr, 89-51. Khalil Johnson had 20 points.

Freshman Marcus LoVett had 34 points as Burbank Providence defeated Yeshiva, 71-66.

Santa Monica defeated Redondo, 42-41. Jordan Mathews had 17 points. Righetti defeated Arroyo Grande, 70-45. Ryan McGready had 20 points and 14-year-old freshman Cameron Walker aded 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Sun Valley Village Christian defeated West Ranch, 82-60, to improve to 16-1. Marsalis Johnson scored 26 points. Zac Nuttal had 18 points for West Ranch.
