January 11, 2012 |  7:54 pm

There must be some kind of parity in the City Section this season, because one of the favorites, Fairfax, barely survived its Western League game against University on Wednesday. The Lions needed a layup from Landon Drew at the buzzer to beat University, 46-44.

Brendyn Taylor, in his return to action for Fairfax, scored nine points. Malik Spears led all scorers with 12 points for University.

Palisades defeated Venice, 88-42. Tyler Hildreth scored 19 points and Donovan Johnson 15.

In the East Valley League, Grant defeated Monroe, 82-36, with Gor Plavchyan scoring 19 points. In the Coliseum League, Crenshaw defeated View Park, 72-46. In the Valley Mission League, Kennedy defeated San Fernando, 51-27. Danny Jiron had 11 points and five assists. Reseda lost to Panorama despite Teddy Linn's 40 points.
