Boys’ basketball: Garfield wins its ninth consecutive game

Los Angeles Garfield is on a roll in boys’ basketball, winning its ninth consecutive game on Saturday in defeating Locke, 69-55, to win the bronze division championship of the Huntington Park/Hamilton tournament.

Frankie Aguilar scored 26 points and was selected tournament MVP. Garfield (13-3) has been led by Joe Joaquin, who is averaging 24 points a game.

Garfield is one of the top teams in City Section Division II.

Dorsey won the gold division championship with a 65-43 win over Fremont. Franklin won the silver division title with a 63-62 win over LACES. Roosevelt won the green division championship with a 44-40 win over Carson.

L.A. University defeated San Pedro, 71-49, in the third-place game of the gold division. Victor Nwaba had 20 points.
