Boys’ basketball: El Camino Real tunes up for West Valley League opener

Woodland Hills El Camino Real has aspirations of challenging Taft in the West Valley League, and the Conquistadores had a final tuneup on Saturday, routing Chatsworth Sierra Canyon, 81-45.

Julian Richardson and Mason Pollack each scored 16 points. The Conquistadores made 13 three-pointers on the night, something they’ll need to do on Wednesday, when they host defending City Section Division I champion Taft in a West Valley opener. Taft defeated San Diego Lincoln, 53-49. Anthony January had 13 points and 20 rebounds.

In the San Diego-Los Angeles challenge, La Verne Lutheran defeated La Costa Canyon, 62-48. Grant Jerrett had 23 points and Eric Cooper 22 points. L.A. Windward defeated Francis Parker, 71-59, with Nicholas Stover scoring 31 points. Gardena Serra defeated St. Augustine, 60-48. Serra is 13-1 and received 18 points apiece from Dakarai Tucker and Daddy Ugbede.

Los Angeles Price lost in Milwaukee to Baltimore Patterson, 86-75, in the Brandon Jennings Invitational. Trey Dickerson had 22 points.

Etiwanda (15-1) defeated Crenshaw, 63-56. Jordan McLaughlin scored 22 points and Sam Flemming had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Brandon Baker led Crenshaw with 25 points.

In the Providence tournament, Valencia defeated Ribet, 73-64; Pacific Hills defeated Central Fresno, 55-29, behind Brandon Taylor, who had 22 points and eight assists; Hart defeated Corona del Mar, 74-67; Pasadena Marshall defeated San Diego Serra, 62-40; Flintridge Prep defeated Campbell Hall; Providence defeated Bell-Jeff, 77-71, with Marcus LoVett Jr. scoring 32 points.
