Boys’ basketball: Alemany takes control of Mission League race

There’s no doubt who’s the team to beat in the Mission League. Alemany moved two games ahead of its closest pursuers and did it with an impressive road victory over Los Angeles Loyola, 95-81, on Wednesday, completing a sweep of the Cubs.

Senior point guard Max Guercy scored 27 points and had six assists. He made 13 of 14 shots from the free-throw line. Marqueze Coleman had 23 points and 11 rebounds. Bear Henderson added 20 points and Jerico Richardson had 17 points, five assists and five steals. Alemany is 18-3 overall and 7-1 in league.

Loyola (16-3, 5-3) received 24 points from Julian Harrell.

In a big Mission League upset, St. Francis handed Crespi its third consecutive defeat, 66-52. Tei Vanderford had 27 points for St. Francis (9-13, 2-6). Justin Rubia scored 19 points and London Perrantes 17 for Crespi (18-4, 5-3).

Harvard-Westlake pulled into a tie for second place after a 69-56 win over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Derick Newton scored 21 points.
