Baseball: San Fernando shows it's ready for another title run

San Fernando High's baseball team won the MLK tournament.

San Fernando, the surprise City Section Division I champion in baseball last season, has eight starters back and the Tigers have every intention of seeking another title at Dodger Stadium.

On Monday, they defeated L.A. Cathedral, 3-2, to win the MLK tournament at the Urban Youth Academy.

Sophomore Alonzo Garcia, expected to be the Tigers' No. 1 pitcher, threw four scoreless innings. Freddie Flores had two runs batted in.

Cathedral started four freshmen. The two teams will meet in a nonleague game on March 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Birmingham.
