Baseball: San Fernando is in Martin Luther King tournament

January 12, 2012 |  8:05 am

Defending City Section Division I champion San Fernando is playing this weekend in a Martin Luther King tournament at the Urban Youth Academy in Compton. The championship game is set for Monday at 1:30 p.m.

San Fernando returns eight starters, led by City player of the year William Vazquez, a third baseman. The Tigers must replace their pitching staff and have turned to sophomore Alonzo Garcia.

Coach Armando Gomez thinks his team can make another run at Dodger Stadium because of its offense and defense. Carson, Hamilton, Cathedral and Bell are also participating in the tournament.
