The play-calling of former Woodland Hills Taft Coach Troy Starr has led Helix of La Mesa to a 35-24 victory over Loomis of Del Oro in the CIF state championship Division II bowl game at Home Depot Center.

Trailing 10-7, the Highlanders (13-1) scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to seize control against a team whose only previous loss was its season opener in overtime to undefeated Westlake Village Westlake, which plays Concord De La Salle at 8 p.m. in the Open Division game.
