Football: Ex-Taft coach Troy Starr guides Helix to title

Former Woodland Hills Taft Coach Troy Starr could be returning to the Southland next weekend after San Diego Helix won the San Diego Section Division II championship with a 44-6 win over Oceanside on Monday night. Oceanside was seeking its eighth consecutive section title.

By winning, Helix (12-1) becomes the favorite to land a CIF state championship bowl bid for Division II at the Home Depot Center in Carson. Quarterback Brandon Lewis passed for three touchdowns.

Starr had been 1-6 in championship games during his Taft days and 0-2 in championship games at Helix.
