Football: Another vote for Lompoc

Ronnie Flores, who writes for Cal-Hi Sports, said he saw Lompoc and Fresno Washington Union perform in playoff games in back-to-back weeks, and he believes Lompoc was the better team because of its line play.

‘It’s like comparing San Clemente and Santa Margarita with El Toro and Tustin in terms of the size of the players and the hitting going on,’ he said.

Controversy erupted on Sunday in the selection for the Division III representative from Southern California for the CIF state championship bowl games. Lompoc finished 14-0 and owns a victory over Western Division Arroyo Grande. Washington finished 13-0 in the Central Section.

Lompoc had been ranked higher in most state polls, but the 10 section commissioners voted to send Washington Union to the Division III game.
