Longtime baseball Coach Manny Alvarado of Granada Hills Kennedy was back at work on Thursday after being put on administrative leave last week following an incident in which two baseball players were involved in what an administrator labeled a ‘hazing incident’ to parents. One player was injured.

Alvarado was barred from coaching his team in a tournament last week. An investigation was launched.

Alvarado declined to discuss his feelings on Thursday, though he previously expressed his disappointment in the Kennedy administration for lack of confidence in him.

Parents had met with the school principal voicing support for Alvarado.

Alvarado has been a fixture as baseball coach since 1988, winning five City Section championships. Let’s hope this doesn’t cause him to retire earlier than planned. He has made a tremendous impact on the lives of many Kennedy players.
