De’Anthony Thomas, the former Crenshaw High standout, was in tears back in February when he announced he would sign with Oregon instead of USC.

So far, so good, says his former coach, Robert Garrett.

‘He calls weekly,’ Garrett said Thursday before the Cougars’ showdown game with Dorsey. ‘He’s enjoying his experience. He likes the team, he likes the environment.’

Garrett said he speaks with Oregon coaches to make sure Thomas is doing well in his classes.

‘For him, he thinks he made a good decision,’ Garrett said.

Thomas is certainly making an impact on the field as a freshman for the Ducks. He has rushed for 342 yards and scored four touchdowns. He has caught 25 passes for 382 yards and six touchdowns. He has a 93-yard kickoff return.
