It’s still hard to believe what happened Saturday involving Los Angeles Washington.

Washington was selected for the City Section Division II football playoffs. But the Generals were pulled from the pairings and replaced by Belmont after their coaching staff failed to show up for a required film exchange with their opponent before 1 p.m.

John Aguirre, the assistant commissioner of the City Section, said a Washington assistant coach showed up on Saturday but didn’t bring film to exchange. Aguirre said he twice spoke with Washington Coach Cornell Ward on the phone trying to get the film exchange to take place. Aguirre said Ward indicated he’d take care of the situation. Aguirre said no one came.

On Monday, Washington Athletic Director Kim Bly said, ‘I’m very disappointed.’

It’s the Washington players who should be disappointed. They don’t get to play in a playoff game because the adults screwed up badly.
