South East was 9-0. L.A. Jordan was 3-6. South East opened a 47-13 lead in the third quarter and led, 47-19, going into the fourth quarter.

Final score: Jordan 49, South East 47. Jordan scored 30 points in the fourth quarter. South East had three fumbles and three interceptions in the final quarter, wiping out 266 yards rushing by Robert Lewis.

‘I knew this team could do it,’ first-year Coach Will Burnett said.

Turnovers and mistakes were costly for South East. Quarterback Gilbert Rivera had touchdown passes to Robert McCovery and Marlon Taylor and also scored a TD in the fourth quarter. His two-point conversion run with just over two minutes left broke a 47-47 tie.

‘The defense picked it up a notch,’ Burnett said.

Jordan got back Justin Lewis, a quarterback who had missed the season for academic reasons. If the Bulldogs receive a City Section Division I berth, they could be a dangerous team.

South East ends up sharing the Eastern League title with Garfield and still figures to be the No. 1 seed in Division II.
