Football: Freshman Kyle Sweet is set to start for Santa Margarita

Not since 1999 has Santa Margarita started a freshman on the varsity football team, but that will end on Friday night, because freshman receiver Kyle Sweet is set to start for the Eagles against Mission Viejo.

Sweet, the younger brother of former Santa Margarita standout Logan Sweet, was a standout quarterback on the freshman team until getting promoted to varsity.

He has four receptions for 70 yards. He’ll be the first freshman starter since Ashton White.
