There was so much velocity on a couple of passes thrown Friday night by Bellflower St. John Bosco quarterback Rene Medina that if Alemany defenders had happened to touch the ball, they might have had to leave the field with broken fingers.

Medina unleashed a cannon-like arm, passing for 268 yards and two touchdowns in the Braves’ 33-28 victory. Alemany Coach Dean Herrington said Medina has one of the strongest arms he has seen from a quarterback this season.

It has always been a case of whether St. John Bosco could protect Medina enough that he could release the ball to his talented group of receivers. When Medina can sit back in the pocket, it’s all over for opponents.

He’s a top pitcher for the baseball team, and his composure against the Warriors was critical to the victory. He had several third-down completions to keep drives alive.

St. John Bosco hosts San Clemente on Friday in a Pac-5 Division quarterfinal. The Tritons better not let Medina have all night to find his targets, or their season will come to an immediate end.
