Cross country: St. John Bosco’s Danny Martinez runs fastest time

Danny Martinez of Bellflower St. John Bosco ran the fastest winning time at Saturday’s Southern Section cross country championships at Mount San Antonio College, taking the Division 3 race in 14 minutes, 36 seconds.

Team titles for the boys’ divisions went to Arcadia (Division 1), Golden Valley (Division 2), Palos Verdes (Division 3), L.A. Salesian (Division 4) and St. Margaret’s (Division 5).

In the girls’ competition, Simi Valley sophomore Sarah Baxter won her second consecutive individual title, winning the Division 2 race in 16:44 to help the Pioneers win the team title. Another individual repeat champion was Cami Chapus of Studio City Harvard-Westlake. The Stanford-bound Chapus won in 17:06.

Team champions were San Clemente (Division 1), Simi Valley (Division 2), Palos Verdes (Division 3), JSerra (Division 4) and Xavier Prep (Division 5).
