After running nearly three miles at the City Section girls’ cross country championship on Thursday at Pierce College, sophomore Peyton Cline of Woodland Hills El Camino Real looked more like Peyton Manning the way she rallied in the final yards to overtake San Pedro’s Evelyn Gonzalez to win the individual title.

‘I have no clue,’ she said moments afterward about how she came from way back to win. Her final time was 18:15.71. Gonzalez was next in 18:17.59.

Cline is known more for her talent as a soccer player for El Camino Real’s City championship team, but she showed determination and perseverance to win the title. San Pedro took the team title over Birmingham.

In the boys’ individual race, Grant Stromberg of Palisades won in 15:40.77. Robert Amador of Fairfax took second in 15:50.63. Palisades won the boys’ team title over second-place Santee.
