Boys’ basketball: The season begins

The basketball season begins on Monday with tournaments galore.

One of the best is at Redondo High. Long Beach Poly, Westchester, Harvard-Westlake and Fairfax are all in games that start at 3 p.m. and last through 8:40 p.m. Loyola, Palisades and Dominguez play on Tuesday.

El Modena and Anaheim Canyon are hosting a 16-team tournament.

Santa Ana Mater Dei, ranked No. 1 by the Times, plays in a Mission Viejo tournament starting Monday.

If you want to see one of the top freshman players, Aaron Holiday of North Hollywood Campbell Hall has its high school debut at home on Monday at 7 p.m. against Glendale Hoover.
