Former West Hills Chaminade outfielder Kevin Pillar will be honored Friday as the Southern California first-year Minor League Player of the Year by the Professional Baseball Scouts of Southern California at an awards banquet at Angel Stadium.

Pillar, 22, who played at Cal State Dominguez Hills, won the Appalachian League batting title with a .347 average.
