There are consequences for revamping leagues, and one of them was pulling Ventura St. Bonaventure from the Channel League. The big winner was Ventura, which is 5-0 and looks in good position to finish the regular season 10-0 and make a run at the Western Division title.

Asked if he was glad St. Bonaventure is no longer in the Channel League, Coach Brad Steward said, ‘I think that’s a fair statement.’

Ventura senior quarterback Rodney Stanley, who missed much of last season because of a dislocated shoulder, is completing 68% of his passes. He has thrown for 662 yards and seven touchdowns.

‘He throws the ball where he needs to,’ Steward said.

Free safety Nick Januska is a standout, as is 6-foot-4 receiver Nick Rudolph, who’s a member of Ventura’s Southern Section championship basketball team.

Ventura hosts Oxnard on Friday in its final nonleague game. Time Warner Cable will broadcast the game at midnight.
