With some dramatic last-second field goals this season, don’t forget about the contributions of the long snappers.

I spoke to long snapper guru Chris Rubio, and he gave me a list of long snappers performing well at midseason.

Josh Antol of Mission Viejo is considered the No. 1 senior long snapper prospect in Southern California. Brandon Greene of Redlands East Valley and Grant Meersand of Mira Costa are also having solid years.

At Westlake, where Alex Ball has made 12 field goals, he ought to take out his long snapper, Randy Sue, for dinner. The Warriors also have an outstanding long snapper on punts in Sodie Orr.

The best junior long snapper could be Erik Thompson of Trabuco Hills. He’s the younger brother of long snapper Scott Thompson, who received a scholarship to North Carolina State.
