Don’t look now, but San Pedro and veteran Coach Mike Walsh should be a factor in the Marine League even though most people are focusing on a Carson-Narbonne showdown on Oct. 21 as the big title decider.

San Pedro finished a 5-0 nonleague season with a 50-20 win over previously unbeaten Westchester. Quarterback Kenny Potter passed for 261 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 60 yards.

The Pirates have league games with Washington and Gardena before getting to face Carson on Oct. 28. That’s pretty good scheduling, considering San Pedro will cruise to victories, be 7-0 and Carson will have to recover from what figures to be an emotional, hard-fought battle against Narbonne the week before.

So don’t forget about the Pirates. They’re very much in the mix for a Marine League title.
