Football: Long Beach Cabrillo makes a turnaround

Long Beach Cabrillo, under first-year Coach Jason Brown, has made a turnaround, going 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Moore League.

Leading the way has been senior quarterback Derek Stewart, who has completed 113 passes in 165 attempts for 1,721 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also has ran for 322 yards and scored five touchdowns. He had 416 yards passing and five touchdowns against Long Beach Jordan.

Cabrillo also has a standout on defense in defensive back Ricky Carrigan, who has four interceptions and has returned two punts for touchdowns.

The team went 3-7 last season.
