Fiery Crenshaw Coach Robert Garrett was hardly in panic mode in early September after his team lost its opener to Alta from Sandy, Utah, 45-14. He said that come December, the Cougars would be just fine.

November is about to arrive, and Garrett’s prediction is right on schedule. Crenshaw (5-2) is on a five-game winning streak while smashing one City Section opponent after another.

‘We’re getting there,’ Garrett said. ‘We’re working at it.’

Crenshaw will get the chance to show how far it has come on Thursday night, hosting rival Dorsey (7-1) in a Coliseum League title decider.

Crenshaw is the two-time defending City Section Division I champion. The Cougars’ slow start was not unexpected, because they had to replace a number of veteran players. But a new cast has emerged, including receiver-defensive back Dominique Hatfield, running back Mossi Johnson, quarterback Jerry McConico and defensive back Kass Albert.
