Afte this weekend’s games in the Trinity and Serra leagues, there should be a clearer picture of which teams are real contenders for a league title and playoff spot. Or not.

In the Trinity, teams are chasing Anaheim Servite, but everything changes if Bellflower St. John Bosco is able to knock off the Friars on Friday. Suddenly, St. John Bosco will have emerged as the team to beat.

As for the playoff hunt, Servite and St. John Bosco each have two league victories. Get to three and you should be in good shape, but finding that third victory can be difficult. Santa Margarita and Mater Dei are in the running. Orange Lutheran could be a spoiler, too.

In the Serra, wins by Loyola and Alemany on Friday would set up a league title decider next week at Alemany. Loyola has to get past Bishop Amat while Alemany faces Encino Crespi. More importantly, wins would give the Cubs and Warriors the magical two victories that would likely secure a Pac-5 Division playoff spot.

If both lose, the league race becomes more than muddled, and suddenly Bishop Amat and Crespi would thrust themselves into the title and playoff picture.
