No one is going to know how good Canyon Country Canyon (4-0) is until it gets tested in the Foothill League, and the real answer won’t come until the second round of the Northern Division playoffs.

The Cowboys were stuck in two-year contracts after going 10-2 last season, so they’re beating up on the same teams they took care of last season. Next year, they’ve already agreed to play Clovis West to break up the schedule.

Having seen Canyon in summer passing competitions, it’s clear there’s lots of offensive talent with quarterback Jonathan Jerozal, receiver Drew Wolitarsky and running back Max Archuleta. Add to them, the standout point guard from the basketball team, Coley Apsay, came out to play receiver in his senior year after not playing since he was a freshman and caught eight passes for 150 yards against Camarillo.

So I’m going to be patient and wait to see how the Cowboys perform against Valencia and Newhall Hart before making any conclusions.
